1230 Sevenoaks October Meeting

Many thanks to all those who made yesterday’s 1230 Sevenoaks meeting such a great success. We were delighted to have Angela Ward, freelance journalist for the Sevenoaks Chronicle there and look forward to seeing an article about our group in the business section.

A big thank you also to Natalie Percival wwww.bmore.net who was there with her table of natural organic skin care products and very kindly donated a prize for our business card draw.

Caroline from Shine takes part in NCT Pamper Party

Caroline was pleased to take part in the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) Woking Branch Pamper Party at Foxhills on 17 October.

The annual charity event consisted on many different therapists offering a range of treatments to supporters of the NCT. The mini treatments included massage, reflexology, head massage, manicure & pedicure.

Caroline did a mixture of 10 manicures/pedicure over the course of the evening. She allowed her clients to select two options from: cut and file, cuticle work, hand/foot massage or varnish so they could get the part of the treatment they preferred.

The event was expertly organisaed by Chyna Woolfenden and her team. The atmopshere on the night was the correct balance of bustle, relaxation and friendliness.

Top Tips for the Shooting Season

Light and shade
The low autumn sunshine gives a wonderful natural light and fantastic shadows, which result in particularly effective landscape photography. The loveliest lighting is around 3pm, before it gets too dark. Look out for the changing colour in the trees and the dramatic way the sunlight hits the sides of buildings. Budding fashion photographers: why not try shooting your models against this glorious natural background. Parents: photograph your children kicking up the crunchy leaves, and enjoy the glowing light on their faces.

Party on, dude!
Pictures of places and products are all very well, but nothing beats pictures of people that you’ll look at again and again. Halloween is a great chance to capture images of your friends and family, maybe all dressed up for a party,
dunking apples or off trick-or-treating. Remember you’ll need to use ?ash if you’re photographing indoors or outdoors after dark.

Gunpowder, treason and plot
Fireworks night offers another great photo opportunity at this time of year. To capture all those exciting aerial explosions, you’ll need a good viewpoint, a tripod (to stop camera shake) and a slow shutter speed. Oh, and wish for clear skies!

‘Positive thinking’ is the phrase of the week!

I never realised how fascinating the global money market could be until I met my beloved a few years ago … nor did I ever, for one moment, imagine I would be nigh-on addicted to watching a stock market ticker-tape at the top of my screen as I beavered away on my client’s projects.

But that is what has been happening in my neck of the woods these past few weeks, while the global economy seems to be doing a freefall skydive into oblivion.

So I’ve taken heed of a very wise man (Patrick White) who said that we need to stick up a huge sign above our doors saying “This business is not participating in the recession” – because I am not!

Yes, people are tightening their belts (truth be told, this should have started happening over a year ago when the warning signs were flashing up in neon lights worldwide) … but we must not cave in to the constant barrage of negative media.

Just focus on your goals, your aspirations, your achievements … shut out, as far as you can, the doom-and-gloom-merchants and see how you can streamline your business to make it as watertight as you can.

The markets’ spectacular crash yesterday afternoon has to be a very stark warning that we need a major rethink of how we live our lives, how we treat our finances and how we – as individuals, as a family unit, as a business, as part of a community – can help to get our world back on track. Not in the future – but NOW.

So please – watch the news, read the papers … but don’t fall into the trap of believing there is nothing to follow but desperate times. My personal opinion is that it’s going to be a very rough ride but without hope and the power of positive thinking, it’s going to be a heck of a lot tougher! We all need to pull together, keep on sparkling and support each other to keep our spirits (and profits) up.

Now, time to get my ‘stuff’ ready for tomorrow’s 1230 We Mean Business event in Bromley … a great way to elevate our spirits and drive forward our vision to be recession-proof. See you there!!!

Fiona from Electra Jewellery Collection will have a table at this meeting… some great ideas for early Christmas shopping all under one roof. Latest jewellery from New York, jewellery boxes, after party shoes, handbags, shrugs, and cufflinks..

The 1230 Diamonds are Forever event last Friday at the Gherkin was stunning! The building itself was a great attraction for me and the fashion show was amazing !
