1230 member Caroline Sherwood-Roberts is featuring in this 5 week series. Voice coach and elocution expert Caroline is also a judge on the panel. We look forward to hearing from Caroline how it all goes
Many thanks to all who supported the launch of this new Group on 23rd July at Dartford Golf Club. Thanks to Jackie for her attendance and to Anne for her invaluable help both before and on the day. Following discussions with the Club we are being given unprecedented access to the boardroom for our future meetings, which will now take place on the 4th Thursday of the month, commencing on 28th August. Please come along -bring your friends!
The 5.30am start to get to the leaders’ meeting of helloWorld on Saturday 17 November really was worthwhile!
It is amazing how each time we have such an event the software has moved on again. It is so exciting to be part of something that is so far ahead of its competitors.
We can now have private face2face meetings with up to five people via the video streaming media helloWorld provides.
We also had a chance to try out helloPhone which is a bit like using a very superior version of Skype. helloPhone at the moment can be used to have up to 3-way face2face phonecalls with any other helloWorld customer or member from anywhere in the world. At the beginning of next year plans are afoot to have a variety of packages so that it can be used with any phone number in the world – about 1d per minute to anywhere!
The company really is an amazing one. Everytime you sign in there is another easy to use feature enabled – and when we use helloWorld we are being very environmentally friendly.
Jackie and I missed the fireworks today but it was a sparkling day for networking.
First thing in the morning we were at The Savoy presenting Louise Bayne of Ovacome a cheque for £1700 which was the total raised by our wonderful 1230 TWC members in September at the Tea in Style event we held with Frank Usher at The Savoy. The total included £270 which was raised by 1230 TWC Harpenden members who were unable to join us all for the fantastic tea and fashion show.
1230 saw us having lunch at the RSA Club in Adam Street with Margaret Duggan, winner of last year’s Any Other Business? Award which was sponsored by Microsoft. This year’s event will have an IT flavour with workshops run by experts from all areas of IT and the topics will be specifically aimed at helping your businesses to use IT more efficiently to save you time and more effectively to grow your business.
We had to dash away from the meeting to travel to Westminster where we attended a presentation by Prowess in the Members’ Dining Room, overlooking the River Thames. The report on Women Entrepreneurs was extremely interesting and we will be looking for more ways to work with Prowess in the future to help our 1230 members.
Our business day together over I left Jackie at Westminster and went off to the Caledonian Club in Halkin Street. A fabulous venue for the Hume Clan AGM. My great grandmother was a Hume. The Clan has bought and is restoring Hume Castle in the borders of Scotland. If any of you have Humes in your family tree do get in touch. The Hume Clan is relatively new – five years – and keen for new members to join. I always meet interesting people to network with and they could be related too!
This month has been an absolute whirlwind, with various meetings, plans for 2008 and in amongst all this Penny and I have managed to attend 2 1230 TWC Christmas specials – one in Saloman’s, with 1230 TWC Managers Jo Williams, Ann and Jane Marshall, and one in The Screen, Oxted with 1230 TWC Managers Val Apps and Caroline Aitken – both excellent events.
And… on Monday 3 December Penny, Clare and I Eurostarred into Paris for the day, as my birthday treat from Penny. Boy, did we cover some miles!
Tomorrow, Wednesday 12 December, we’ll be attending the 1230 TWC Beckenham, Bromley and Chislehurst Christmas Special at Mello’s with X-Factor semi-finalist Zyta ….. so watch this space for an update on that.
Hopefully all 1230 TWC members will have received a copy of the latest 1230 e-Insight into their Inbox. Please let me know if you’ve not received yours yet.
Great meeting at BRX Beckenham today.
Among all the chaos caused to deliveries by the strike of Post Office workers, it has not been forgotten by those who rely on the Post Office and Royal Mail that the closure plan for 2,500 sub-Post Offices is rolling inexorably ahead.
Businesses and sole traders in rural areas and on the edges of larger towns will be particularly affected by the closures, which will mean not only the loss of banking and cash services but core postal services too. It is probably a good guess that many 1230 TWC members rely substantially on the network of smaller Post Offices for their business as well as domestic and social needs.
The disheartening thing for many villages and suburbs is that their Post Office resides in the one and only remaining shop in the community and if the Post Office closes the shop it is located in becomes, almost inevitably, less viable and therefore vulnerable to closure too.
Great meeting at Harpenden today. Both Jackie and Penny went to collect a donation for Ovacome that was raised by 1230 Harpenden
Here at Marienbad the internet connection is not so easy. First problem … my laptop connector doesn’t fit the telephone socket so I have to use the public computer. That brings another problem – the keyboard is in Czech. The receptionist changes it to English for me after I have struggled to do it myself. It defaults to Czech so she has to do it again. I know now how do it myself!
Sitting in an internet cafe in the centre of Prague. Free access in return for a bottle of water! Wish there were places like this in London!! Battery running low on laptop so will have to charge it up later today and hope that there are more places like this.
